OUR HISTORY

Archer Excavating is a premier excavation company that is family owned and operated in Whitefish, Montana.
In the early 1980’s, Jim Archer provided excavation services for the Whistler/Blackholm ski resort and the surrounding areas, where he developed an expertise in steep terrain. He immigrated to Northern California in 1986, founded Archer Excavating and attained a California Class A General Engineering License (License #580-200) which is still active to this day. In California, Jim worked on numerous commercial and residential projects including Apple Computer, Genetech, waste water treatment centers and private residences in Lake Tahoe, Nevada City and Sacramento.
In 1995, Jim moved to the small town of Whitefish, Montana without knowing a single person. Whitefish offered an incredible quality of life with its beautiful surroundings, world class ski resort and small town community - the perfect place to raise his young family and grow his business. The early days in Whitefish consisted of Jim riding around his backhoe offering excavation services. His first job was north of Whitefish where he built a horse arena. Jim took pride in bringing California construction standards to his jobs in Montana and as business grew, Archer Excavating found success in residential construction. Over the years, Archer Excavating has developed a reputation for being an expert in all aspects of dirt work with a specialty in luxury residences. We take pride in being on the team of engineers, architects and builders to make an owners dream a reality.
